The long awaited birth of Thomas Henry finally arrived. Amber had been checking in with me throughout the evening with sporadic contractions. We all decided that we would try to get some sleep around 9:45pm. Just before 11pm Amber and Darryl decided to head to the hospital in Brandon, MB and said for me to be on stand-by. I was packed and ready to go and was eager to head out. Just before midnight I got the text to head out to Brandon! When I arrived at the hospital just after 2am I was met by Amber's mom who had flown to Manitoba just to be here for the birth of her daughters first child!
Darryl supported Amber through each contraction as she labored to bring their son earth side. They are going to become parents today!
Amber's mother was able to massage and hold a heating pack on her lower back to help ease the discomfort.
This was the first birth I had attended that was with the midwifery care model. It was so peaceful and calm! Amber's mom graciously offered to step behind the curtain to allow me the better angle to photograph from as the room was fairly small. With a few words of encouragement from Darryl, Thomas would soon make his appearance!
Welcome earth side Thomas Henry, born on October 29th at 6:11am weighing 7 lbs, 3.6 ounces and 21" long!
Grandma and Grandpa couldn't resist snapping some of their own pictures to share with family and friends!
Thomas get his newborn exam with great Grandma watching and first mini bath. Dad and Grandpa marvel at little Thomas while Amber heads down to the OR for some stitches. I have to say this is the proudest Grandpa I have ever seen, he was grinning from ear to ear!
Dad got to spend a bit of time with his son doing skin-to-skin bonding while mom was in surgery. I hung around for a several hours while we waited for Amber to came back from surgery. She very much wanted some pictures with her family and I happily obliged!
Congratulations Amber and Darryl on the birth of your son Thomas. You are so blessed to have had your family by your side as you entered a new phase in your lives!
