Toddlers aren’t exactly known to be the most cooperative and you’re probably worried about getting great images of your 2 year old’s sweet personality.
Here are a few tips to help make your session a success and get the results you want.
1. Explain to your child what will happen ahead of time.
Prepare them beforehand with where they are going and what will happen so they know what to expect and aren't surprised or scared.
2. Choose your child’s best time of day.
Some are happiest in the morning and others are their best before dinner. You know your child so choose the best option that will work and don’t schedule your session during a usual nap time!
3. Comfortable clothing.
Children can be extremely sensitive when it comes to their clothes. Make sure there is no itchy tags poking them or too many layers that make them hot and sweaty. Comfortable clothes are still adorable and will photograph just fine.
4. Bring a snack.
I Don’t know a toddler that doesn’t like a surprise snack to distract them or get rid of hunger pangs. If they’re hungry, they aren’t going to cooperate until we fix that. I always keep water, juice and small snacks in the studio!
5. Bring a favorite toy or stuffed animal.
If your child needs a blanket or a stuffed buddy (when I was a child we called it a lovey) please do bring them along! They don’t have to be in the photo, but having them nearby may be enough to calm your child.
Photographing a toddler can be a challenge but by incorporating these tips, it will help us get amazing results that you’ll be eager to print and hang on your wall!
I hope these tips help put your mind at ease! If you have anything to add feel free to comment!
